Light Rail finally comes to Seattle

Color me psyched for the opening weekend (7/18-7/19/09) of Seattle’s Link Light Rail system which will finally start commuter-train service between Tukwila and downtown. I’ve lived in the Seattle metro area for twenty years…IMHO Seattle has needed this for a long, long time. Repeated voting for the Monorail didn’t pan out…the Link system probably doesn’t please everyone. Oh well! I will not miss riding Metro Route 7 every day, nor will I miss the daily traffic jams at “The Roaster” (f.k.a. the Rainer Brewery). My Link stop will be the Columbia City Station. The picture below is of the almost-finished Mt. Baker Station.

Preparing for Opening Weekend Sheila Klein’s “Sky Within” featuring six chandeliers was installed recently in the concourse of Link’s Mount Baker Station. The chandeliers are made from recycled Cobra Head street lights. Link’s Opening Weekend is Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19.
